If you ever need to be reminded of just how big the universe is to date…
A Parsec is: 30,856,802,500,000 Kilometers
Scroll to the right and see the long white map, 308,568,025,000,000,000,000,000 kilometers long.
What I really find so fascinating is that its filled with more debris than emtpy space.
AND
This map is only one tiny slice of the space that surrounds us as shown in this 2D round map of galaxy clusters! Remember its 3D space.
Humbling.
1 ly, (light year) = 9,460,528,400,000 km
1 billion Light Years = 9,460,528,400,000,000,000,000 km
or
5 Yotta Years.
So that little “1 billion ly” marker below is how far light traveled in one billion years!
So 9,460,528,400,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 km
Now if we drove in our car at say 200 km/hr, how far would we travel in one year?
Answer: 365 days x 24 hours/day x 200 km/hr = 1,752,000 km/year
At that rate it will take us:
5,399,844,977,168,949,771,689,497 years.
Hmmmm…maybe I’ll wait for some faster technology.
